50 years anniversary of YUGcement branch of the Dyckerhoff cement in Ukraine

On May 25, a significant event happened - 50 years anniversary of YUGcement branch of the Dyckerhoff cement in Ukraine.

A highlight of the Dyckerhoff Cement in Ukraine occured in May 2018 - 50 years anniversary was celebrated at YUGcement branch of the Duckerhoff Cement in Ukraine (former Olshansk Cement Plant, Olshansk, Mykolaiv region). Today it is the largest cement production plant in the south region of Ukraine.

The history of YUGcement consists of two major stages: the construction and development of the plant in the Soviet Union time, and a new era that began with the redemption of a controlling stake of the OJSC YUGcement by the world-renowned industrial group Dyckerhoff in 2000. Since then, changes took place at every technological line, many investment projects have been implemented and almost every single piece of production equipment has been modernized.

If you dig a little into the past, it is an interesting fact that even before the launch of the rotary kiln on May 25, 1968, the first cement was produced on the imported clinker after grinding in the cement mill # 1. Yevgenia Yelkina was the first operator who previously worked at the Yemangelin (later Korkin) cement plant. The clinker for the first cement was brought from Zdolbuniv Cement Plant. This is the earthshattering connection that unites the current YUGcement and Volyn-cement branches, as well as Dyckerhoff Korkino long before their consolidation with the Buzzi Unicem group. Ms. Yelkina was the guest of honor at the anniversary celebration. YUGcement employees, Dyckerhoff group senior managers in Ukraine, as well as our partners: customers, suppliers, contractors and regional government officials were invited to the celebration. Greetings were delivered by the director of YUGcement branch Andriy Navratsky and the CEO of Dickergoff Cement in Ukraine Sergey Dudzianiy. Employees and guests shared greetings, words of faith and support from Central and Eastern Europe's Dyckerhoff division head Paolo Zelano and Buzzi Unicem Group honorary representative Gigi Buzzi.

The anniversary is not only the plant’s lifetime, but also an important anniversary of cooperation and one-direction movement. The history of the plant confirms it’s significant contribution to the development of the cement industry in Ukraine. And this was noted by the chairman of the "Ukrcement" association Pavel Kachur and its executive director Roman Skilsky. But YUGcement not only makes cement for the development of the industry, but also plays a significant social role in the Mykolayiv region, taking care of the development of the local community, constantly helping schools and kindergartens, charitable foundations, churches and much more. The plant finances many social projects. The largest in the history of the plant were: the construction of a school in Olshansk, sponsorship of kite baloons festivals, assistance to charitable foundations. The chairman of the Mykolayiv Regional State Administration Alla Vorobyova and the deputy chairman of the Mykolayiv Regional Council Andriy Krotov admitted the recognition of the significant social contribution of the plant. A production tour was organized for the factory guests. The partners of our company were able to see the whole cycle of cement production, starting from the Pontic and Sarmatian limestones in the Grigoriv Quarry till the cement loading station. The professional interest of visitors raised many questions to the guides: raw materials, equipment, technological scheme, quality control process. Everything that they  saw and heard gave the partners confidence in the quality of the product. By the way, Dyckerhoff's stable quality was noted in the greetings of almost every client of the company.

Just like the whole Dyckerhoff Group, the plant is a bearer of a culture of worthy and loyal partnership with its customers. The idea of team unity was emphasized everywhere during a solemn dinner on the banks of the Southern Bug and the map of Ukraine, constructed with best wishes became a symbol of the community. The separate concrete tiles brought together, symbolized the unity and strength of all companies and our country. The splendid “Resonance” Orchestra maintained the festive mood of the guests. The virtuoso performance of classic rock music created an atmosphere for socializing and relaxing.

On the one hand, 50 years anniversary of the plant is a very serious and significant date. Many different events, achieved significant results in the work, honed the knowledge and skills of highly qualified employees during half a century, and on the other hand it is only one of the big stages of development of a company that already has invaluable work experience. YUGcement  plant has a truly dedicated team of professionals who is constantly working to ensure that our product remains a symbol of quality and reliability under the changing conditions of today while combining German quality and Ukrainian craftsmanship.
